Next Stage of B.C.’s Single-Use Policy Begins

VANCOUVER — As of July 15, the following aspects of B.C.’s Single-Use Plastic Waste Prevention Regulation are now in place:

Shopping bags

  • Minimum fees on new recycled paper ($0.25) bags and new re-usable shopping bags ($2)
  • Requirement of minimum 40 per cent recycled content in paper shopping bags (recycled paper bags for food delivery and drive-thru orders are exempt from this fee)
  • Re-usable bags must be durable enough to be re-used and machine-washed at least 100 times

Foodservice ware

  • Businesses can long distribute or sell single-use foodservice ware made with certain hard-to-recycle plastics
