AURORA, Ont. — Bianca Aversa and Jonathan Williams from Niagara College Wine & Culinary Institute took home the first prize and $1,000 from King Cole Ducks Ltd.’s Great Amazing Duck Race.

The day-long event, that saw nine Ontario-based students compete to make the best duck recipe, began at 7 a.m. at the King Cole Ducks Breeder farm, with an egg hunt in a simulated barn.

Afterward, the contestants shopped at St. Lawrence market before meeting at George Brown College for the cookoff.

“We could never have imagined how enthusiastically the students embraced every facet of the race. These future chefs were incredible throughout this delicious adventure,” said Patti Thompson of King Cole Ducks.

The winning recipes were Duck-broth Punch, Duck-egg Tortellini as well as Duck Banh Mi and Duck Breast. The $500 per student second-place prize went to DeAille Tam and Simon Wong of Toronto’s George Brown College for their Duck a L’orange Ravioli in broth and Duck Breast with a pancake. The third-place prize of $250 per student went to Steve Richer and Anthony Lamanna of Toronto’s Humber College for their UpBeet Duck Salad and Duo Duck of Duck Legs and Duck Roulade.
