TORONTO — The King Street Food Company’s long-anticipated French restaurant, La Banane, opened its doors in Toronto this week.

“We’re excited to announce that, after two years in the making, La Banane is finally opening its doors today,” the company announced Tuesday on its Facebook page.

Executive chef Brandon Olsen brings significant experience in French cooking, having previously worked at The French Laundry and Ad Hoc, both located in California’s Napa Valley.

“I want this restaurant to be an institution,” Olsen said in an interview with The Globe and Mail. “I want to create a legendary restaurant that is iconic in Toronto in 25 years. I want people to come and still see me combing the line… I don’t want to be a hot restaurant. I don’t give people new trends; I give them what is good.”

The 85-seat La Banane occupies the former space of The Saint Tavern.
