Ocean Wise Celebrates Five Years

VANCOUVER — Canada’s leading sustainable seafood program, Ocean Wise, celebrated its fifth anniversary with a media dine-around in Vancouver on Thursday, Jan. 24.

British Columbia’s foodservice media were gathered to indulge in an evening of sustainable seafood provided by: Aria Restaurant and Lounge – at the Westin Downtown, Burrard Bridge Marine Bar and Grill, C restaurant, The District, The Edge Bistro, Fraiche, Griffins – at The Fairmont Hotel Vancouver, Revel Room, Rocky Mountain Flatbread Company, Tapenade Bistro and Zen Japanese Restaurant. Groups of journalists met at the Vancouver Aquarium for a sparkling wine toast before being loaded into buses to visit two of the participating restaurants and try some of their sustainable seafood dishes. A similar event took place in Toronto on Wednesday, Jan. 23.

Founded in January 2005 by the Vancouver Aquarium, Ocean Wise has been Canada’s leading sustainable seafood program since launching nationally in 2009. The Ocean Wise symbol on a restaurant menu, retail display or store product assures you ocean-friendly seafood choices have been made. The seal can be found across the foodservice industry, in fine-dining, family casual, quick-service, schools, event centres and institutional feeding. Ocean Wise works with more than 290 partners across Canada at more than 2,700 locations.

Ocean Wise is also the winner of Foodservice and Hospitality’s 2009 Pinnacle Award for Supplier of the Year.
