Oliver and Dammann to Open Montreal Gastropub

MONTREAL — Celebrity chef Jamie Oliver is partnering with renowned Montreal chef Derek Dammann to open a gastropub named Maison Publique on the Plateau Mont-Royal in mid-September, reports Montreal’s Gazette newspaper.

“For years, Jamie and I have been talking about collaborating on a low-key, welcoming, neighbourhood place,” said Dammann as quoted by the paper.

“I thought Canada would be ideal for him, because it’s more off-the-beaten path than countries like the U.S. or Australia. After two years of talks, it’s becoming a reality.”

Jamie Oliver will be on hand this fall to help launch the restaurant, but, as an investor, he will only lend ideas to the gastropub’s menu and will not offer any signature dishes. Dammann’s menu will feature old-school, British-style food, minus the ordinary fish and chips.
