PORT HOPE, Ont. — Olympus Burger has become Canada’s first Carbonzero-certified restaurant.

To achieve carbon-neutral status and its Carbonzero certification, the Port Hope, Ont.-based burger joint swapped out all plastic materials, including cups, cutlery and straws, for eco-friendly alternatives. Olympus Burger is also investing in carbon offsets — projects resulting in verifiable reductions in greenhouse gas emissions — to counter unavoidable emissions created by the restaurants operation, such as those from natural gas and electricity use.

Carbonzero is a Toronto-based company focuses on corporate carbon-reduction strategies and solutions in the emerging low carbon economy — aids organizations in assessing, reporting and reducing their emissions.
