Ontario Expands Capacity Limits at Sports and Event Venues

TORONTO — Ontario has expanded the capacity limits at large event spaces, including concert venues, theatres and sports stadiums.

“With public health and healthcare indicators stable and proof of vaccination now in effect, the government, based on the advice of the Chief Medical Officer of Health, is cautiously easing capacity limits for select indoor and outdoor settings where proof of vaccination is required,” announced the provincial government last Friday.

For indoor spaces, the capacity limit is now 10,000 people instead of 1,000 people (or 50 per cent of a venue’s total capacity, whichever is less), which includes banquet halls and conference centres, sporting events, concerts, theatres, cinemas and more.

For outdoor event spaces where people are seated, the capacity limit is now 30,000 people instead of 15,000 people (or 75 per cent of total capacity). However, for outdoor standing events, such as music festivals, the capacity limit is capped at 15,000.
