Ontario Man Takes Restaurant to Human Rights Tribunal

TORONTO ─ In a decision released just before Christmas, the Ontario Human Rights Tribunal ruled that a job posting that requested female-only servers is a violation of human rights, according to the National Post.

Ontario native Adnan Cenanovic was denied a job at the Bourbon St. Grill in Richmond Hill, Ont. in 2013. Though his lawyer couldn’t prove that Cenanovic didn’t get the job because of his gender, he did argue that men face systemic discrimination in the foodservice industry. His client is seeking $25,000 in restitution, plus an order for Weiwei “Tony” Zhu, owner of the Bourbon St. Grill owner, to post a copy of the Ontario Human Rights Code in his restaurant.

Both sides must submit recommendations for redress by Jan. 9. [nationalpost.com]
