Ontario Premier Accuses Tim Hortons’ Heirs of Bullying Employees

TORONTO — The premier of Ontario has accused the children of Tim Hortons’ founders of bullying their employees, reports The Toronto Star.

Ron Joyce Jr. and his wife, Jeri Horton-Joyce — children of Tim Hortons’ two co-founders — recently announced that they would be reducing the benefits of employees at their two Tim Hortons restaurants in Cobourg, Ont., in response to the latest minimum wage increase.

Premier Kathleen Wynne has stated that if Joyce Jr. was opposed to the minimum wage hike, he should have called her out rather than “taking this out” on his employees.

The benefit changes announced by Joyce Jr. do not violate Ontario’s Employment Standards Act, however, Wynne has stated that she wants to see the decision reversed.
