TORONTO — OpenTable has revealed its 2016 list of the 100 Best Restaurants for Foodies in Canada, based on 300,000 restaurant reviews from OpenTable diners for more than 1,800 Canadian restaurants.
“From locally sourced ingredients, artisanal cocktails and unconventional cooking methods, to an eclectic fusion of international cuisines, restaurants across the country are setting themselves apart by offering up new and unique dining experiences that are hitting the mark with self-proclaimed foodies,” says Ziv Schierau, head of National Accounts for OpenTable Canada. “This list serves as a guide for locals looking to venture beyond their usual fare and travellers wanting to indulge in one of the many eateries defining Canada as a global dining destination.”
OpenTable’s 2016 list spans eight provinces and a diverse culinary landscape. Ontario dominates the list with 45 restaurants, followed by Alberta with 22 and B.C. and Quebec with 14 each. Of the 100 restaurants, Italian food has proven the most popular among OpenTable diners, with Canadian and French placing second and third, respectively.
While the list includes some new restaurants, many are established businesses, such as The Prune in Stratford, Ont. — which is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year. Some newcomers include Little Grouse on the Prairie in Saskatoon, Sask. and Osteria Savio Volpe in Vancouver.
