TORONTO — The Toronto Region Board of the Ontario Restaurant Hotel & Motel Association (ORHMA) has reported a win for its members as the City of Toronto’s Waste Management Department has accepted a proposal to allow restaurant operators to use special 95-gallon bins in place of the existing yellow bags.

“[The city] listened and made changes to support our member needs,” said Jason Cheskes, Toronto Region president, of the organization whose members found the yellow bags costly and impractical. “We see this is as great example of co-operation between the Association and the City, and are looking forward to working together further for positive changes under the new council and mayor.”

Operators using the yellow bag program will have access to the 95-gallon bins for approximately $100 each and $800 annually.
