TORONTO — Chef Claudio Aprile has brought his Origin restaurant north of Bloor, introducing Origin North — his third outpost of the internationally inspired small-plates menu — to the city’s Bayview Village neighbourhood.
The spacious 350-seat location features a raw seafood bar with lobster ceviche ($17) and snow-leg crab ($29) as well as a mozzarella bar with fiore di latte ($17) and bufala ($17).
The restaurant also offers hot and cold plates such as Chinois duck on a flour tortilla with cucumber, hoisin, sriracha and sour cream ($17) or beet salad with goat cheese, pickled red onion, sherry dressing, yogurt and walnuts ($13).
The decor features floor-to-ceiling windows, wood panelling and black leather seats. “We wanted to create a residential feel, so the space is designed for communal dining. Green tiles were put in the kitchen to make it look like home. I want the chefs here to be front and centre and banter with the diners,” Aprile told Toronto’s The Grid.
Origin North is located at 2901 Bayview Ave.
