Ottawa Aiming to Simplify Restaurant Permits

OTTAWA — Getting an Ottawa restaurant licence could get easier, according to the Ottawa Citizen.

Earlier this week, the city put in a request for tender, aiming to create an online system for permits and licences. “Creating an online presence was one of the suggestions the city received from surveying 19 new restaurant owners,” Donna Gray, Service Ottawa director, said in an email to Ottawa Citizen. “The city believes making the process more accessible will encourage more businesses to open.”

Previously, new restaurant operators needed to visit an Ottawa client counter for the required paperwork. The new portal would allow patrons to submit business licence applications, public health food applications, sign permits and municipal information online. [ottawacitizen.com]
