P.E.I Kicks Off Best of Sea Competition

CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — Prince Edward Island’s 2016 Best of Sea competition has commenced. The annual month-long cooking competition runs from June 1 to 30 and features 20 top chefs from restaurants across the province.

Throughout the month-long event, the chefs will create 40 locally inspired seafood dishes which will be ranked by a professional judging panel. Winners will be announced at the beginning of July.

“Throughout the month of June, local restaurants are being challenged to create unique seafood dishes that showcase Prince Edward Island’s premium seafood products,” says P.E.I. Agriculture and Fisheries minister Alan McIsaac. “Best of Sea is an opportunity for local restaurants to promote the talent of their chefs while providing customers with a high-quality meal featuring our world-renowned seafood.”

Chefs will use a total of 13 different species of local seafood and are encouraged to use P.E.I. ingredients in their dishes throughout the competition.

Awards for the creative cooks division, chique chefs division and the Best of Sea 2016 Chique Chef Award will be handed out on July 4.
