Panera Bread COO Resigns


SUNSET HILLS, Mo. — John Maguire has resigned as executive vice-president and COO of Panera Bread to assume the role of CEO of Friendly’s Ice Cream.

“While we are disappointed to see John leave after so many years of valuable service with the company, we want to thank him for his contributions to Panera’s success, and we wish him well in his new position,” said Bill Moreton, president and co-chief executive officer of Panera.

Charles Chapman has stepped in as COO. Chapman joined the management team in 2008. He brings more than 20 years of restaurant industry experience, having served with Bruegger’s Bagels and Dairy Queen.

Maguire will end his run at Panera May 31.
