CHARLOTTETOWN — Papa Joe’s, a Charlottetown-based family restaurant, was recently named the winner of the annual Taste Our Islands Awards.

“We work hard year-round and are so very pleased. Our chef, Irwin MacKinnon, is also pleased our efforts have been recognized,” said Barb Jabbour, one of the three operators of the restaurant as quoted by P.E.I’s Guardian newspaper.

There were 43 restaurants nominated by Island diners for the 2011 award, semi-finalists included: The Dunes Café in Brackley, The Inn at Bay Fortune, The Georgetown Inn and Red Shores. Other restaurants rounding out the final nine were: The Home Place in Kensington, Clamdiggers Restaurant in Georgetown, The Cape Light Restaurant in Cardigan and The Kitchen Witch near New London.

The winner and runners-up will be featured in the 2012 P.E.I. Visitors’ Guide.

The award recognizes restaurateurs who support sustainable regional food systems, use local ingredients from Island suppliers and promote local food to their customers.
