OTTAWA — The Right Honourable Julie Payette, Governor General of Canada, announced 103 new appointments to the Order of Canada in late December.
Paul Higgins Jr. and Michael Higgins, owners and co-chairmen of Mississauga, Ont.-based Mother Parkers Tea & Coffee Inc., were among the order’s newly appointed members. The brothers received the honour for their “leadership in Canada’s food industry, notably in developing and promoting sustainable business practices.”
Paul and Michael represent the third generation of the Higgins family to lead the family-owned company, having taken the reins of the company as co-CEOs in 1993. According to Grocery Business, the pair transitioned to the roles of co-chairmen of the Mother’s Parkers’ Board of Directors earlier this year.
