P.E.I. Anticipates Good Summer Tourist Season

By now you may have already heard that the namesake stars of the New York-based show Live! with Regis and Kelly are heading to Prince Edward Island to film four episodes of their popular morning program in July. The excitable duo has plans to explore the entire Island and discover all there is to learn about P.E.I. history, culture and food.

It is good news for restaurant owners who are already hoping for an influx of American tourists after the show airs, especially considering the fact that 2009 was such a miserable year for tourism. And, the province is banking on it — as they’ve allegedly invested $750,000 to bring the show north.

Regis and Kelly will be taping two shows a day on July 12 and 13 at Confederation Landing Park on the historic Charlottetown waterfront. The programs will air from July 12 to 15. They previously taped shows in Niagara Falls, Ont., back in 2006.

According to various media reports, more than 12,000 people have applied for tickets to the tapings.

But it’s not just American morning show fans that might be tempted to take a trip to the “Gentle Island” this summer. CBC.ca is reporting that Japanese Tourists are poised to return to P.E.I. after staying away last year due to H1N1-based fears.
