P.E.I Fisherman Play Waiting Game

CHARLOTTETOWN — Just as B.C. salmon fishermen on the Fraser River are celebrating jaw-dropping sockeye numbers this year, fishermen on the Northumberland Strait in P.E.I are delaying the start of herring season.

According to CBC News, there’s not enough herring to catch and the fishermen have all agreed to commence the season a week late. “It’sd be nice to be fishing, but if there’s no fish, and the quality could possibly be poor, it makes sense to wait it out,” Chuck White, a local fisherman, told the CBC.

To top things off, the season has already kicked off on the North Shore where fishing is better. In fact, some South Shore fisherman are already considering making the move North, banking on a better return.
