MARINA, Calif. — A man in a giant yellow chicken suit caused a minor commotion outside of a drive-thru window at a McDonald’s yesterday in Marina, Calif, according to the Monterey County Herald. The protest was staged by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA ), with the goal of raising awareness about more humane ways to slaughter chickens.

The animal rights group has been lobbying McDonald’s to require its chicken suppliers in the U.S. and Canada to kill their chickens by gassing them, which is a new process that is being adopted in Europe. Currently, the chickens are electrocuted before their throats are cut. McDonald’s reps have stated they believe their method to be the more humane way to kill the animals, and that more information is needed about the new process of gassing chickens.

The activists were soon met by a counter-group of chicken lovers who showed up to support the local Mcdonald’s. To see the whole story, click here.
