KINGSTON, Ont. — Pita Pit has opened its first restaurant in Southern India, according to APN News.

Located in Ascendas Park Square Mall on Whitefield Road in Bengaluru, the location will offer breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks and late-night food, including salads, bowls, soups, wraps and more.

The Canadian healthy fast-food chain partnered with a master franchisee — Muvi Concept Restaurants Private Limited — which plans to open 50 restaurants in Southern and Western India over the next three years. The company already has 14 restaurants in operation in Northern India, including one at the Delhi Airport.

Dylan Powell, director of strategic development for Pita Pit International, says that the company plans to open restaurants in cities like Hyderabad, Pune and Mumbai, which have become huge tech hubs in recent years. It also plans to introduce menu items and flavours unique to the region.

Rashi Agarwal, managing director of Muvi, says that the decision to partner with Pita Pit was based the success of its other restaurants, as well as the opportunities created for women across its supply chain. She says this will help in South and West Indian regions where demand for jobs is high.

Founded in 1995 as a healthy alternative to fast food, Pita Pit currently boasts more than 650 outlets worldwide, mainly in Canada and the U.S. The chain also and recently expanded to Ireland, with the opening of a location in Dublin last fall.
