MONTREAL — The word is out. Celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay is setting up shop in Montreal where he will make his first foray into the Canadian dining scene.

The Hell’s Kitchen star, who owns restaurants in London, New York and California, has found a neighbourhood, family restaurant in Montreal — the city’s iconic Rôtisserie Laurier BBQ.

“This is not going to be a Michelin-starred restaurant project, but a platform for something to roll out,” Danny Lavy, the owner of the Laurier building, told the Montreal Gazette while discussing the project.

In the meantime, the Brit chef is busy preparing for the Chef’s Challenge, set to take place Nov. 20 and 21 at the Carlu in Toronto. The toque’s charity event will see Toronto’s best chefs, such as Lynn Crawford, Mark McEwan and Jamie Kennedy, battling it out to help raise awareness and funds for Mount Sinai Hospital’s research and care for women suffering with breast and ovarian cancer.
