OAKVILLE, Ont. — Restaurant Brands International (RBI) has released a new responsibility policy on its website, citing plans to eliminate certain antibiotics from Tim Hortons’ and Burger King’s chicken-supply chain.

The new policy states that the chains “aim to eliminate the use of antibiotics deemed by the World Health Organization as ‘critically important’ to human medicine from our chicken-supply chain in the United States in 2017 and in Canada in 2018.”

The policy statement also notes that RBI currently requires its suppliers to “purchase products only from farmers that administer antibiotics in a judicious and responsible manner when treatment is necessary, in keeping with veterinary and regulatory requirements.”
