Remembering Chef Niels Kjeldsen

TORONTO — Chef Niels Kjeldsen passed away last week at the age of 71, following a short battle with cancer.
Kjeldsen had a 50-year career in Canada and abroad as a chef at many leading hotels including Hyatt and Sutton Place Hotels, as well as The Four Seasons Hotel Toronto’s former Truffles restaurant.

In 1984, he was a member of the first Culinary Team Canada to win Gold at the World Culinary Olympics in Frankfurt, Germany.

From 1994 to 2001, Kjeldsen was president of Monte Carlo Fine Foods in Richmond Hill, Ont., after which he joined Prime Restaurants Inc. as director of Culinary.

Kjeldsen is survived by his wife Yvonne; children, Oliver, Kristine and Karine (Frank); granddaughter, Scarlett; and sister, Lisbeth.
