Restaurant Buzz: Abe’s Restaurant

0

Just 30 minutes north of Calgary, Abe’s Restaurant has landed on the Airdrie scene with a fresh take on the burgeoning fast-casual concept that’s flourishing in bigger cities. Guests order at the counter or through an app that notifies them via text when their order is ready, and then pick up their meal at the counter. Partners Bernie Levert and Jamie Johnston-Stewart sourced locally made leather seating for the 1,200-sq.-ft., 35-seat restaurant and added a splashy rock-concert poster along the back wall. The menu, created by Levert features breakfast, lunch and dinner and is home to a variety of fresh salads, sandwiches and desserts. Its signature Big Lion Burger has a Big-Mac style flat middle bun specially made from a local baker, enveloping double-stacked beef patties, double cheddar cheese, onions, pickles and Abe’s secret sauce ($11.75), served with fries, chipotle Caesar salad or soup. The team is already in expansion mode, seeking three to four new units in the Calgary area.
