The mathematical equation for Pi being 3.14, it’s only fitting that Calgary’s new Pie Cloud is located at 314 10th St. Owner Maureen DePatie spent years stuffing binders full of inspiration for her sweet, savoury and whimsical pies made with fresh and seasonal ingredients before launching the shop in May with the help of executive chef Mason Baker. The Pie Cloud has it all, from steak ‘n ale to slow-smoked barbecue pork pie on a cornmeal crust topped with mashed potatoes, to sweet pies and even over-the-top inventions such as The Marshmallow Mermaid, featuring a tart orange curd flavoured with Blue Curaçao, heaped with marshmallow topping ($9). The quirky space, which seats 68, incorporates a pink and mint green 1920 woodburning stove with vintage bakeware shades, in addition to modern chandeliers, all under the guide of DePatie, with help from consulting design firm, Baboushkin Design Group.
