VANCOUVER — New tax legislation is being tabled today in British Columbia that will see the reintroduction of all the PST exemptions that were in place prior to the introduction of the HST — including restaurant meals.
The new legislation is being applauded by the Canadian Restaurant and Foodservices Association (CRFA).
“British Columbia’s 12,000 restaurateurs and the 2.6 million guests they serve every day look forward to paying 7 per cent less for restaurant meals,” said Mark von Schellwitz, vice president, Western Canada, CRFA.
The improved Provincial Sales Tax system will replace the HST next April.
B.C.’s unpopular and controversial Harmonized Sales Tax (HST), which came into effect July 1, 2010, has been defeated by a vote of 54 per cent (yes) to 45 per cent (no) in last August’s referendum.
