Restaurants Canada - RC Show 2023

TORONTO — Restaurants Canada hosted its annual media preview last week at its headquarters in Toronto to offer a sneak peak of what’s to come at the 2023 RC Show next month. Celebrating this year’s theme of Heart & Hustle, the RC Show will feature more than 1,000 booths; nine curated pavilions with innovative and cost-saving products and services; eight culinary and beverage competitions; seven stages of programming; four experiential feature areas and three networking events.

Throughout the evening, attendees from across the foodservice industry were offered a variety of beverages and small bites from featured restaurants and suppliers. Vendors included Pearl Diver, NOCE, Preserve Indulgence, Gaucho Pie Co., Soup Sisters, Patrick McMurray at ShuckerPaddy and more.

The preview included speeches from Kelly Higginson, COO at Restaurants Canada; Evelyn Chick, owner of Ahma, Simpl Things and Love of Cocktails; and Christina Viera, owner of Bar Mordecai and STAVE. Chick and Viera also serve as RC Beverage Ambassadors.

Additionally, a panel moderated by Anna Pham, manager, Stage Programming at Restaurants Canada highlighted some of the key topics that will be addressed at the tradeshow, such as sustainability and integrating single-use plastics, mental-health challenges in the workplace and diversity, equity and inclusion (DE&I) initiatives. Panellists included chef Imrun Texiera, founder of Wanderlust and ambassador of the Burnt Chef Project; Emily Robinson, food education manager at the University of Guelph; Janice Bartley, founder of Foodpreneur Lab; and chef Matt Dean Pettit, co-founder of Trinity Market.

Pettit wrapped up the panel with a piece of advice for those in the industry looking to explore new options for their business: “What we’ve learned in the last three or four years is that we all need to be more open to new ideas, skill sets and collaborations. I believe that if you have a great heart and great energy, opportunities will present themselves, but you have put yourself in the driver’s seat.”

The 2023 RC Show will take place April 10 to 12 at the Enercare Centre in Toronto.
