Restaurants Canada Re-Launches #OnTheirPlate Campaign

TORONTO — Restaurants Canada has re-launched its #OnTheirPlate campaign to call on the federal government for an extension of the CEBA loan re-payment deadline beyond December 31.

Operational costs, labour shortages and bankruptcies are all on the rise for the foodservice industry. Currently, 51 per cent of Canadian foodservice operators are operating at a loss or just breaking even, compared to just 12 per cent pre-pandemic.

At the same time, the CEBA loan re-payment deadline is looming, which will be impossible for thousands of restaurateurs to meet. As it stands, thousands of restaurateurs are at risk of closing their doors this summer, a threat that only grows if the CEBA re-payment deadline doesn’t change.

“We need your voice to join us in asking the federal government for an extension of the re-payment deadline in light of the acute challenges that the foodservice industry is facing,” said Olivier Bourbeau, VP, Federal and Quebec Affairs, Restaurants Canada in a release.
