Reuters: Airbnb Launches In-home Restaurant Experience

SAN FRANCISCO — During the past six years, Airbnb has been slowly stealing share from the hotel industry through its online accommodation-sharing business, and now the San Francisco-based company is expanding its reach, launching in-home dining experiences, reports Reuters.

Its dinner-party pilot program encourages hosts to organize and throw dinner parties for strangers, while Airbnb takes a small cut of the proceeds. Currently, the Airbnb website advertises ‘Best Homemade Fine-Dining in the Heart of the Castro’ for $34 per person, or ‘Middle-Eastern Pescatarianism Film Night’ for $39 per person.

Airbnb spokesperson Marissa Coughlin wouldn’t share more details about the program with Reuters but said the company is “always experimenting with new ways to create meaningful experiences.” [reuters.com]
