TORONTO — After a year-long transformation, Toronto’s historic Arcadian Court has reopened, and last week, Oliver Bonacini Events, which runs the event space as a partner with Hudson’s Bay Co., hosted a media preview to show off its new look.

Originally built in 1929, the Arcadian Court has been restored to its art deco glory with modern new amenities and a new flexible contemporary space in the Arcadian Loft, an area ideally suited to host receptions. Together, the two spaces form a unique complex, which is suited to almost any event or occasion.

“Officially only reopened a few days, the space is fully booked for Saturday weddings for the next two years,” said Peter Oliver, partner, Oliver & Bonacini Restaurants, at the opening event. “And with the addition of the Arcadian Loft, this event complex now has the versatility and capacity to host large-scale events, ranging from galas, weddings and fashion shows, to corporate events and conferences. With Arcadian we are entering into an exciting new age in event services in Toronto.” In February 2011, The Bay announced it had entered into a partnership with O&B Restaurants and Compass Group Canada to transform its foodservice and restaurant offerings. The re-opening of the Arcadian Court is the latest step in this evolution.

Led by DeSignum Design and CMA Construction Group, the extensive redesign involved stripping layers of walls and floors added over the years. The construction team also opened eight of the 16 grand arches in the mezzanine that were closed off in past renovations, restored the squared off arches and added four feet to the remaining eight. The Court, which can hold approximately 700 people, is 8,086 square feet.
