CALGARY — Ronald McDonald House Charities Canada, Ronald McDonald House Southern Alberta and Mosaic Primary Care Network has launched The Ronald McDonald Care Mobile, a program that will bring medical care to East Calgary families challenged by language and social barriers.

“We are excited to partner with Ronald McDonald House in this new initiative,” said Jason Shenher, executive director of the Mosaic Primary Care Network. “We believe that taking the services to the people will remove a lot of barriers and ultimately improve the population’s health.”

The Ronald McDonald Care Mobile is a 12-metre long, two-metre wide vehicle that features two patient examination rooms, a medical supplies storage area and a reception area. The vehicle will deliver free medical, dental and health education services, nutritional counselling, oral health and screening, pre-natal care and education, childhood health promotion, injury prevention education, immunizations and specimen collection.

“While Ronald McDonald House Southern Alberta will continue be a home away from home for the families of sick children being treated at a nearby hospital, our new Ronald McDonald Care Mobile allows us to extend our support into our local communities and, together with our health-care partners at Mosaic, help more children and families in their time of need,” said Larry Mathieson, executive director, Ronald McDonald House Southern Alberta.

Canada’s first Ronald McDonald Care Mobile joins a network of 45 Ronald McDonald Care Mobiles in eight countries.
