Saege Bistro Closes After Nine Years

HALIFAX ― After nine years in business, Halifax’s Saege Bistro will serve customers for the last time Feb. 18, according to a recent post on the restaurant’s Facebook page.

Westwood Group, the company that owns and manages the restaurant’s property, at 5883 Spring Garden Rd., will be renovating the building in the coming months. As a result, Saege Bistro owners, Geir Simensen and Ray Bear, have decided to close permanently.

“We see this as an opportunity to move on from Saege and focus on our other operations,” says Simensen. The partners also own Scanway Catering and oversee the catering kitchen in the Maritime Centre on Barrington Street, as well as the pastry shop, café and storefront on Grafton Street. Simensen is also one of four owner-operators of Stubborn Goat Gastropub in downtown Halifax.

Simensen and Bear are proud of what they have accomplished with the restaurant since opening in October 2006. “Saege was lucky to be a part of the local-food movement from the moment it opened, and we’ve been proud to serve Nova Scotia meat and produce over the last nine years,” says Simensen.
