SIAL Canada Coming to Toronto

TORONTO — SIAL Canada returns to Toronto this month for its 16th edition, which will take place from April 30 to May 2 at the Enercare Centre.

The international food and beverage tradeshow will feature 50 conferences and panels highlight the latest agri-food trends, as well as more than 25 activities and competitions. Content will cover market-trends, sustainability, dining and beverage topics, including much-anticipated panels on cannabis edibles and challenges facing the industry.

As part of its sustainability programming, SIAL Canada has also partnered with the University of Guelph to host a sustainable cooking competition. The Canadian Plate Challenge will call upon four award-winning Canadian chefs to create a 100-per-cent-local meal while contributing to the respect of the planet and the health of its inhabitants. There will also be an extensive list of content, including a panel addressing the issue of packaging wasterelated to meal kits.

In the show’s La Cuisine area, two key events will be featured, including the Inspired to Taste Canada: Celebrated Cookbook Authors Present Local Recipes, which will feature demonstrations by cookbook authors. And, on May 2, Chuck Hughes, chef, restaurateur and creator of My Kitchen Staples, will lead an Italian-style Culinary Demonstration.

The Inspire Drink section of the show will highlight infused drinks in the morning and other alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages in the afternoon. Among the sessions offered is Sodas & Mocktails: The Beverage Revolution, which will reveal the secrets of artisanal beverages.

Competitions hosted at SIAL Canada will include Food Scale-Up’s Pitch food start-up competition, which will see start-ups go head-to-head pitching their concepts. This year also marks the first International Cheese Competition by SIAL. The competition will see chefs and cheese-making professionals evaluate more than 200 cheeses submitted in 23 categories.

SIAL’s prestigious SIAL Innovation competition will also take place, awarding exhibitors based on four criteria: packaging, manufacturing process, merchandising and recipe. The Awards Ceremony, which takes place on April 30 to mark the show’s official kick-off.
