SIR Corp. Wine Lists Awarded

TORONTO — The recently announced 2010 Wine Spectator Awards have been particularly kind to the Toronto-based SIR Corp., and, in particular, that company’s Signature Group of restaurants, which includes Reds Bistro & Wine Bar, Four and Far Niente

Reds, a popular wine destination, improved its previous ranking by winning the Best Award of Excellence, a nod which gives special recognition to “restaurants that honour wine lists that generally offer at least 400 selections, with modest depth or superior breadth across several classing regions.”  The restaurant features a 481-label, 3,000-plus-bottle cellar and offers an extensive by-the-glass selection, which complements the locally inspired fare.

Four and Far Niente both received the Award of Excellence, exhibiting wine lists — developed by sommelier Maja Baltus — that “offer a well-chosen selection of quality producers, along with a thematic match to the menu in both price and style” as defined by the magazine.

“Each of the winning signature dining establishments prides itself in the unique culinary experience that it offers its diners and this includes wine,” says Misty Beazley, vice-president of SIR Corp.’s Signature Division. “The Signature Group and its restaurants strive for quality and excellence when it comes to food, wine and service, and we are delighted to be recognized by one of the industry’s most knowledgeable and established publications.”

Wine Spectator magazine has been celebrating the world’s best restaurant wine lists since 1981. Its awards, which it bestows on hundreds of restaurants, offer a seal of excellence to which many aspire.
