Soma Opens on King

TORONTO — Factory boutique Soma Chocolatemaker has opened on King West in Toronto.

The owners, who opened their original location in The Distillery District, have been lauded for their practice of converting raw cacao beans to chocolate. Raw beans will be used to make truffles at the new 3,000-square-foot store, where the natural woodsy design is the brainchild of co-owner Cynthia Leung, a former architect.

Although it’s been a change of pace at the new location, co-owner David Castellan expects traffic to pick up when the new condo tower goes up across the street. “In the Distillery, no one walked past. If you were in the area, you were there because you wanted to go into the shops and experience the place,” he told Toronto Life magazine. “Here, people are just going about their day.”

The new Soma at 443 King Street West is open Monday through Saturday.
