NEW YORK — Starbucks has filed a trademark application for the term “Fizzio” as it tests carbonated drinks.

In its filing with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, the company states that the trademark would apply to “machines for the production of beverages” as well as a variety of drinks, including soft drinks.

According to various news outlets, Zack Hutson, a spokesman for Starbucks, said that the filing was related to the company’s test of sodas in Atlanta and Austin, which started in June. The company is testing three flavours and giving customers the option of carbonating other beverages, such as iced coffees and teas.
