SEATTLE — Just in time for Valentine’s Day, Starbucks has released the latest version of its Starbucks Cup Magic app that offers an animation of its heart-adorned cups.

The coffee chain’s Valentine’s Day cups feature hearts that are part of a mobile-augmented reality program.

Here’s how it works: a customer buys the app, puts the cups within the phone’s field of vision and the phone displays images of heart-shaped flower petals flying off the cup.

Customers can download the app to create and send a personalized virtual Valentine’s Day message or Starbucks Card eGift.

The app is available in U.S. and Canada. eGifting feature is not available outside of the U.S.

Watch the hearts come to life.
