SEATTLE — Starbucks Coffee Company has launched a mobile pre-order option in the U.S., with plans to introduce the feature to select company-owned stores in Canada next month.

Mobile Order & Pay allows customers to place and pay for their order in advance through the Starbucks mobile app and pick their order up at the bar area when they arrive.

“Bringing Mobile Order & Pay to our customers is about meeting their needs of convenience and customization at any time of the day,” said Adam Brotman, chief digital officer at Starbucks. “The fact that it also represents the fastest technology application rollout we have ever done is indicative of the strength of our digital ecosystem, how well it has been received by both our customers and store partners and the impact we think it can have on the future of retail.”

To pre-order in the app, customers select their local store, customize their food or beverage order and pre-pay. The app will provide an estimate of when the order will be ready.
