Starbucks Tests Express Concept

NEW YORK CITY — Starbucks has opened its first express format store across from the New York Stock Exchange at 14 Wall St.

“This location on Wall Street was intentionally designed to take what’s at the heart of our cafés and distill that for a smaller space,” said Bill Sleeth, VP, Store Design. “It is the perfect example of how to balance high design, attention to detail and efficiency, while maintaining what is unique to who we are — our coffee and the connection between our customers and partners.”

The pilot project, tailored for on-the-go customers, will offer Starbucks products in a compact 538-sq-ft. location. A Starbucks employee will take orders with a handheld device to manage wait times. A set of menu options, tailored for New York customers, will rotate on screens.

There are plans to open four additional test express locations in New York this year.
