Starbucks to Enhance Loyalty Program

TORONTO — Starbucks Coffee Company is launching a suite of enhancements to its Starbucks Rewards loyalty program starting April 16.

Among the major updates will be new options to allow members flexibility when choosing how to redeem their stars for rewards in participating Canadian and U.S. stores. Previously all items redeemed for the same number of Stars, but, under the new redemption structure, there will be five tiers ranging from 25-Star to 400-Star redemption options.

With this update, everyone will also be able to earn and redeem stars for rewards immediately after joining the program. Previously, members joined at a Green “Welcome” Level and needed to accrue 300 stars before they could earn towards rewards.

“We’re giving our customers more of what they’ve been asking for and the opportunity to get to Rewards sooner,” says Peter Furnish, vice-president, Marketing, Starbucks Canada. “By providing more options and more flexibility, we’re putting our members in the driver’s seat to choose what is most valuable for them at Starbucks.”

These new enhancements build on existing program benefits. In addition to earning two stars for every $1 spent, members enjoy free brewed hot coffee and tea refills, free birthday treat and exclusive personalized offers along with dozens of additional opportunities to earn bonus stars through monthly Double Star Days and more.

All members will be able to track their stars and redemption options through the Starbucks mobile app or website.
