TORONTO — A new report from Statistics Canada shows that restaurant and bar sales rose 0.5 per cent in January 2013 compared to December 2012.
According to the report, sales in the limited-service restaurant sector increased 0.9 per cent, while the full-service restaurant sector rose by 0.2 per cent in January. Sales decreased 0.1 per cent in the special foodservices sector, which includes foodservice contractors, caterers and mobile foodservices, and 0.4 per cent in the alcohol beverage sector.
Six provinces experienced higher sales in January with Alberta and Quebec enjoying the highest increase of 1.6 per cent and 1.5 per cent respectively; Saskatchewan saw the largest decline of 0.7 per cent.
