TORONTO — Humber College Baking and Pastry Arts Management student Stefanie Francavilla won Gold in Baking at last week’s Skills Canada competition. She now pre-qualifies to compete in the 45th Worldskills Competition in Russia in August 2019.

Skills Canada is Canada’s largest skilled trade and technology competition. The baking competition lasts for eight hours and requires participants to use a variety of different baking methods in order to create a unique artistic showpiece. Over the course of Skills Ontario and Skills Canada, Francavilla created a plethora of molded chocolate bonbons, two types of mini pastries, a mousse cake and an impressive sugar showpiece.

Francavilla’s passion for baking and decorating began at a young age. She began participating in baking competitions in high school and gave strong performances at the 2016 Skills Ontario Baking Competition and the Georgian College Baking Competition — where she received the bronze medal.
