IRVINE, Calif. — Taco Bell has closed its fast-casual concept, U.S. Taco Co., after just one year in operation.

The Huntington Beach, Calif.-based restaurant, which served gourmet tacos, fries and milkshakes, faced hurdles securing an alcohol permit and lacked the expected foot-traffic needed to operate. “U.S. Taco Co. remains a fantastic concept, and was very successful as a place to experiment and learn,” Brian Nicco, CEO, Taco Bell, told the Orange County Register.

Taco Bell’s parent company, Yum Brands Inc., has also experimented with other fast-casual concepts this year, including the Banh Shop in Dallas which served Vietnamese-inspired sandwiches, Super Chix, and the new Taco Bell Cantina.
