TORONTO — Toronto is home to a new tequila bar, with news that El Caballito is set to celebrate its grand opening Feb. 5 at 220 King St. W.

The restaurant’s menu includes 64 tequilas and mezcals as well as a selection of small plates and street-inspired Mexican dishes. “We want to introduce the incredible world of Mexican tequila and mezcal to our guests. Too many people only think of tequila as cheap shots, when in reality, it’s a beautiful, delicious spirit meant to be savoured,” said Manny Contreras, bar manager. “El Caballito will allow people to relax, enjoy a smooth caballito or bottle of tequila and have some delicious food — they won’t want to leave.”

El Caballito, which means ‘little horse’ in Spanish, is touted to be the only kitchen in Toronto to make their tortillas in-house.

The restaurant, which operates Monday through Saturday from 4 p.m. to 1 a.m., features a 120-person tequila bar and a private tequila tasting room. A 1,800-sq.-ft. patio, with a bar and make-your-own-taco station, will open in the summer.
