The Foodies and the Sea

TORONTO — A group of aquatic aficionados are vying for the title of Toronto’s Ultimate Ocean Wise seafoodie.

The contestants have produced videos demonstrating their passion for ethical seafood, and Ocean Wise — the Vancouver Aquarium organization dedicated to aquatic sustainability — has asked Canadians to vote for their favourites on Facebook.

“Watch short vignettes showcasing the insights of Ocean Wise Seafoodie semi-finalists as they reveal the one thing every Canadian needs to know about eating sustainably,” says Mike McDermid, Ocean Wise partner relationship manager. “We hope Canada is just as excited as we are to launch into the voting phase of the Ultimate Ocean Wise Seafoodie contest — ‘like’ your favourite seafoodie at facebook.com/ocean.wise.”

The competing seafoodies have met with such like-minded chefs as Ted Corrado at C5, Martin Kouprie at Pangaea and Victor Barry at Splendido. The grand prize winner will receive an “exclusive culinary experience” with chef Ted Corrado, a tour of Water: The Exhibition at the Royal Ontario Museum, an Ocean Wise cooking class at the Calphalon Culinary Centre and the Ocean Wise cookbook.

Voting opens today and closes April 25.
