The Guild Opens for Brunch

TORONTO — Toronto’s Little Portugal is home to a new restaurant that serves contemporary Canadian cuisine in brunch-style dishes, with a dinner menu set to launch soon.

Chef and owner Mani Binelli, who was formerly chef de cuisine at Toronto’s Pure Spirits Oyster House & Grill, is behind The Guild, a 97-seat resto that offers dishes such as Celeriac Potato Pancake topped with creamed goat cheese, spinach, house-cured trout gravlax and a sous-vide egg ($12) and Foie Gras Stuffed French Toast, with caramelized bananas and raspberry chantilla cream ($14).

The interior features a chef’s table facing the kitchen as well as wooden plank-style tables and a brick-wall bar. Binelli is planning to launch a dinner menu later this week; he will also host “Industry Night,” which will feature guest chefs on Monday.
