BRANTFORD, Ont. — A new rose has bloomed in Brantford, Ont., with the recent opening of traditional British pub, The Rose and Thistle at 48 Dalhousie St.

First-time restaurant owners Audrey and Philip Pitcher selected a heritage building, built in 1835, as the site of their new pub. It was previously occupied by The John Peel Restaurant, which closed in 2012. “I fell in love with it,” Audrey told the Brantford Expositor. “We saw potential here, and we had a vision.” After a $150,000 renovation, the 3,400-sq.-ft. location sports a new bar, bathrooms and kitchen.

British fare on offer includes fish and chips, shepherd’s pie and a ploughman’s lunch, in addition to domestic and importers beers.
