The Star: Filipino Cuisine Is The Next Trend

TORONTO — Filipino cuisine is starting to make a splash on the Toronto culinary scene with small independent restaurants and big Filipino chains invading the city, reports the Toronto Star.

According to the paper, Jollibee, a Filipino fast-food giant, known for its fried chicken, burgers, sandwiches and more, has announced plans to open Toronto locations in 2015. What’s more, the Max’s of Manila chain opened in Vaughan, Ont., in 2011.

“Consumers want something new, they want new flavours, they want to try an experiment with food,” Kelly Weikel, a food-trend expert from Technomic, a Chicago-based research firm, is quoted as saying in the Star. [torontostar.com]
