TORONTO — Tim Hortons is beefing up its lunchtime offerings with the introduction of a new grilled Panini sandwich line.

The new items are being rolled out in select test locations in Saskatoon and Toronto, and will be available in Ontario by the end of August. The company plans to sell its panini across Canada by October.

“We see lunch as a great opportunity for growth for us. We’re the number 2 player in the sandwich category in QSR. One-third of every dollar in QSR is spent at lunch,” Paul House, executive chairman, CEO and president of Tim Hortons, told Calgary Herald. “We do a good lunch business now but we think that this new line of sandwiches is going to give us a great opportunity to increase that market share for us.”

The panini include Tuscan chicken, chipotle turkey, pesto chicken, smoked ham and cheese, bacon, tomato, and cheese, for $5.29 each, and a grilled cheese panini for $3.99.
